'It's Extremely Necessary For Shubman Gill To Work On...': Gambhir On Gill's Dismissal

The Indian batters did not have a good day in their first match of the Asia Cup against Pakistan. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Shumban Gill were sent to the dugout within the first 15 overs of play. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf were on top of the key batters of the Indian set-up. 

Rohit and Kohli were dismissed by Shaheen Shah Afridi, while Shreyas and Gill became the fishes of Haris Rauf. Shubman Gill has not been up to the mark in international cricket since IPL 2023. He was struggling in the middle against the Pakistani seamers and also got a chance when Mohammad Rizwan dropped one.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, while analyzing Shubman's knock, found a technical error in his approach while facing that particular delivery. The 41-year-old believes that Shubman had a gap between his bat and pad, which allowed the ball to go through that gate not just once but a few times.

“It is a technical flaw but I believe he tried to play differently from his natural game because a lot of wickets had fallen from the other end. Rohit Sharma lost his wicket, then Virat Kohli lost his wicket and after that, Shreyas Iyer also got out."

“So he was trying to build a partnership. It was a good ball as well but if you play while leaving such a big gap between bat and pad, a quality bowler will expose you. It's extremely necessary for Shubman Gill to work on this." 

In the last 14 international innings, Gill has managed to score just a couple of half-centuries. Being a first-choice opener for the upcoming World Cup 2023, Shubman Gill will have to score runs in order to remain the first-choice, or else Ishan Kishan, who played a brilliant knock last night will probably replace him after KL Rahul comes back.
