Bangladesh batters Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto ended up on the same side of the pitch while running and Mehidy let Shanto to make his ground first. In the game against Sri Lanka, both batters were caught in an embarrassing run-out.

The Bangladesh team had a rough day in their first game of Asia Cup 2023 which was against Sri Lanka. Shanto was the only one who could get going and kept the hopes alive to put up a respectable total in front of the Lankans.

Bangladesh were 140-5 after 36 overs and Shanto who was having a good day was on 75 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz who can be useful with the bat was on five off nine. These two were the last pair of batters or hope one could say, for the Bangladesh team. It was important for Bangladesh that Shanto should bat as long as possible.

At that point in time, a run-out was the last thing any team would have wanted for themselves. Apart from enforcing a run-out for themselves, they also did that in the most embarrassing way possible. Both the batters ran off towards the same end at the crucial period of time.

Mehidy tucked a delivery which was bowled by Kasun Rajitha. After playing towards the leg side, Mehidy took a start which was enough of an indication for Shanto to run. Mehidy saw Dhananjaya De Silva getting on to the ball and backed out of it. The ball was thrown at the non-striker's end so Mehidy stepped out of the crease so that Shanto could reach on the striker's end safely.

After Mehidy's sacrifice, Shanto could manage to add only 14 runs which took Bangladesh's total to 164 which wasn't enough to win as Sri Lanka chased down the total with five wickets in hand.
