'It’s Either Fit Or...': Batting Coach Vikram Rathour Provides Update On KL Rahul's Injury

India's batting coach Vikram Rathour reiterated KL Rahul's unavailability for selection ahead of the Ranchi Test against England, stating the elegant batter is not yet fully recovered and fit from the quadriceps pain that continues to curtail his wings.

Rahul, who had made a glorious comeback on the tour of South Africa with a hundred in Centurion and struck a measured knock of 86 in the first Test in Hyderabad, has since missed the last three Tests of the series versus the tourists.

Even though the 31-year-old was declared 90% fit officially by the BCCI ahead of the Rajkot Test and was expected to make a comeback in Ranchi, he was ruled out as a further precautionary measure by the team management and the NCA medical staff.

Batting Coach Opens Up On Rahul's Injury Absence

Speculations have been rife if Rahul is dealing with a serious injury on his quad after undergoing surgery for the same last year when he hurt his hamstring playing the IPL 2023 for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Rathour said regardless of the percentage of recovery, Rahul was not fit to take the field for the Ranchi Test.

"KL Rahul is not fit at the moment. I don’t know about the percentage but as far as I am concerned, it’s either fit or unfit. As of now, he is unfit. BCCI’s medical team will be in a better position to know about the injury," Rathour told the press in a pre-Test media interaction on Tuesday.

The team management would be aware of how big a blow Rahul's continuous absence is. Expect to take up the responsibility and be the guiding light for youngsters in the middle-order in the absence of Virat Kohli, the Karnataka batter once again finds himself on the sidelines with an untimely injury.

The earnest batter's career has been plagued with injuries as he has only played 50 of India's 92 Tests since his debut, averaging 34.08 with 2,863 runs, including eight hundreds and a best of 199 versus England during the 2016 home series.
