The West Indies cricket team is set to continue their WTC 2025-27 campaign with a two-match Test series in India. Ahead of the series opener at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, West Indies captain and all-rounder Roston Chase struck a confident tone while addressing the media on the eve of the contest.
Fresh from a 0-3 drubbing at the hands of the visiting Australian team at home a couple of months ago, West Indies will be aiming to punch above their weights against a formidable Indian unit on spin-friendly conditions.
Roston Chase says West Indies a “dangerous side”
While speaking during a pre-match press conference, West Indies captain Roston Chase described his team as the “underdogs” with nothing to lose against a formidable Team India. The star all-rounder also added that such aspects make West Indies a dangerous side on this tour.
Roston Chase said:
“We are the underdogs. We have nothing to lose. That might make us a dangerous side," as quoted by RevSportz.
Roston Chase also added that the West Indies team has not resorted to any “special preparation” for the Test series, as every member of his side already “knows what to do”. Reflecting the pitch on offer at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the cricketer stated that the surface looks a little green.
Roston Chase was appointed as West Indies Test captain earlier this year. Under his leadership, West Indies recently crashed to a crushing 0-3 defeat to Australia at home, and even folded up for a dismal 27 in the final match of the series.
Nonetheless, with a fresh challenge on the horizon, the Roston Chase-led West Indies group will now go up against Team India at the Narendra Modi Stadium for the series-opener. The first Test will be played between October 2 and October 6, and the two-match series also constitutes a part of the 2025-27 WTC cycle.
