New Zealand had a fantastic start to the three-match Test series against India, emerging victorious in the first game in Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Contrary to expectations, India incurred a humiliating eight-wicket defeat in the series opener, as the Blackcaps stunned the home team with a clinical all-round performance.

However, despite New Zealand's commendable victory in Bengaluru, skipper Tom Latham advised his troops not to underestimate India in the subsequent matches. In the post-match press conference, Latham reckoned that the visitors would celebrate their well-deserved win, but wouldn't underestimate the hosts' ability to bounce back in the upcoming fixtures.

"I think 36 years is the last time that we've won here. So, it's a really special feeling to be in this position. It's a proud moment for this group and one we'll celebrate," Latham was quoted as saying by PTI.

"We certainly know that it's going to be a challenge against India (in the second Test), who obviously have a lot of firepower in that line-up," he added.

Tom Latham Updates On Kane Williamson's Injury

New Zealand's talismanic batter Kane Williamson was ruled out of the first Test against India due to groin strain. After the Kiwis' thumping win in Bengaluru, Latham revealed that Williamson has yet to regain match fitness and a call on his participation in Pune Test would be taken in due time.

"I'm sure those conversations will be had over the next 24-48 hours, I guess anyone of Kane's calibre, if he's right and able to come back and decide, that would be obviously great," the opener said.

"But yeah, I guess selection headaches are obviously always a great thing to have from a team point of view. So, fingers crossed he'll be right. I'm not 100% sure on his return yet, but fingers crossed he can get over here as soon as possible," he concluded.
