Ace Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga weaved his magic with the ball, rattling West Indies with a lethal spell in the ongoing One-Day International at Pallekele International Stadium. After Brandon King and Alick Athanaze provided West Indies with a steady start, Hasaranga dismissed both in quick succession, wreaking havoc in the visitors' camp.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, West Indies had a cautious start to their innings, with King and Athanaze adding 41 runs for the first wicket. However, Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka's decision to bring Hasaranga into the attack worked wonders, with the leg-spinner dismissing both the openers in the blink of an eye.
Wanindu Hasaranga began his onslaught on West Indies by getting rid of Brandon King, who could've been a threat to the home side. The experienced campaigner struck in his very first over, drawing the first blood for the Lankans in this high-voltage encounter.
From over the wicket, Hasaranga started his over with a googly, that turned sharply into King after pitching around the off and middle stump. As Hasaranga had tossed the ball up, King went for a wild slog sweep, attempting to put the spinner under the pump.
However, he was bamboozled by Hasaranga's trajectory, as the ball sneaked through his bat and pad gap, shattering the stumps. The Lankan spinner was pumped up following the dismissal, celebrating his success with a passionate fist pump.
West Indies Lose Two Men Early As Hope Joins Keacy Carty
In his very next over, Hasaranga jolted West Indies with another blow, getting Alick Athanaze stumped by Kusal Mendis. After the southpaw's departure, West Indies' Mr dependable Shai Hope joined the promising Keacy Carty in the middle. At the time of writing, West Indies were 51 for two, with Hope and Carty batting on 3* and 13*, respectively.
