Former Chennai Super Kings star Suresh Raina has revealed that between MI and RCB, he will choose to play for Mumbai in the IPL if given a choice. The reason is because he admires Rohit Sharma, and opening with him at Wankhede Stadium would be a dream for him.
Raina, who retired from all types of cricket in 2022, represented just two teams in the IPL, Chennai Super Kings and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions.
He was one of the most consistent players in the tournament's history, scoring over 5,500 runs in 205 matches, and most of those runs came while playing for CSK.
Suresh Raina Chooses Rohit Sharma Over Virat Kohli?
Meanwhile, during a recent interview with Filmygyan, Suresh Raina was posed with a hypothetical situation. He was asked to choose his dream IPL team between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Interestingly, Raina, who is a famous admirer of Virat Kohli, chose Rohit Sharma’s MI. He explained that he wanted to experience playing in the West, especially at the Wankhede Stadium, MI’s home ground. Raina imagined himself batting with Rohit Sharma, calling it a dream combination.
"MI. I’ve already played in the South, so I’d like to experience playing in the West. I’ve always wanted to play for MI. Imagine Rohit and me batting—he's opening, and then me. I think I would love to see that, playing eight games at one Wankhede wicket," Raina said.
Suresh Raina had a glorious career with CSK, winning 4 titles and being a key player for many years. Though he was not retained after 2021 and went unsold in 2022.
Raina Defends MS Dhoni, Blames CSK Owners For Poor IPL 2025 Auction
The Chennai Super Kings, 5-time IPL champions, have been eliminated from the playoff race of the IPL 2025 season with just 2 wins in 10 games. Former CSK star Suresh Raina, however, said that MS Dhoni is not the one who makes all the big decisions and does not deserve any blame.
While Dhoni may suggest or recommend players, he does not control the auction or team selection. Instead, Raina pointed fingers at the franchise owners for the poor squad selection this year.
