Chennai Super Kings extended their lean patch in the IPL 2025, as arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) annihilated them by nine wickets. This was CSK's sixth defeat across eight outings, showcasing their worrisome form in the tournament.
Suresh Raina Explains Reasons Behind CSK's Struggles
Meanwhile, former India and CSK batter Suresh Raina analysed the Super Kings' torrid form in the competition. While commentating on Star Sports, Raina stated that CSK committed some blunders in last year's mega auction which adversely affected their IPL 2025 campaign.
Raina reckoned how CSK missed out on buying promising batters while letting go experienced campaigners like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.
“I think, from the coach and the management, the auction has not gone well this year. There were so many youngsters, talented players in the auction, like Priyansh (Arya) who scored a 100 the other day. Even among the more senior players, you left Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul," Raina was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
Raina Questions CSK's Batting Approach
The Super Kings have received massive backlash for their timid batting approach in the IPL 2025. The likes of Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, Vijay Shankar and Ravindra Jadeja have played at a sub-par strike rate, letting the team down on multiple occasions.
Raina highlighted how CSK players' outdated batting approach has cost them big in the tournament, saying,
“When you see the other teams play, they are attacking so much. (In front of them,) I have never seen a CSK team struggle like this."
Led by MS Dhoni, CSK have incurred six defeats in eight outings, claiming the tenth place in the points table. Up next, they will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai on April 25.
