The Rajasthan Royals are officially out of the IPL 2025 playoff race, but the team management still refuses to accept that their auction strategy was a mistake. RR have had a poor season this time, and most fans think the wrong move to release crucial players is one of the prime reasons.

In a surprising move before the season, RR released star performers such as Jos Buttler, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, and Avesh Khan. All these have played well in their new teams during IPL 2025.

Buttler, playing for GT, has already scored 406 runs in 9 matches. Chahal has taken 13 wickets, including a hat-trick. Boult, now with MI, has 16 wickets in 11 games. Avesh Khan has been strong at the death for LSG, with 10 wickets in 9 matches.

RR Fielding Coach Defiant On Auction Strategy

Despite this, RR fielding coach Dishant Yagnik said the team stands by its decision. He stated that the franchise’s philosophy is to make superstars and not buy them.

“They became stars at our franchise. The current bunch, we’re confident that they will become stars, we’ll make them stars. We don’t buy superstars, we make superstars, that’s our tagline,” Yagnik said.

Interestingly, RR kept players like Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Sandeep Sharma, and chose to build the team around young talent. But most of these players have not had a big impact this season.

While other teams focused on keeping their experienced players, RR took a different route, and it hasn’t worked out. Still, Yagnik insists the team is looking ahead.

“Time has come for us to look beyond such things (regretting not retaining players like Buttler). When we don’t have them, we have to forget and move on. Now we have Vaibhav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson is our captain. We’ll go ahead with this side and we’ll prove our winning ability with this side,” he added.

RR Hit New Low After Big Defeat Vs MI

It was a night to forget for the Rajasthan Royals as they were completely outplayed by the Mumbai Indians on Thursday in Jaipur. Without their regular captain Sanju Samson, the Royals fell apart and were handed a crushing 100-run defeat, their second-worst loss in IPL history. Their worst was in 2023 when they lost to RCB by 112 runs, also at home in Jaipur.
