James Anderson, arguably the greatest fast bowler in cricket history, played his final Test on Friday as England trounced the West Indies by an innings and 114 runs at Lord's. This match marked the start of England's three-match series against the West Indies and the end of Anderson's illustrious 21-year career.

Anderson signed off in style, claiming four wickets in his final match to retire with 704 wickets, the most by any pacer in Test cricket history.

Former England Test captain Joe Root shared his emotions following the match, expressing how much he will miss playing alongside Anderson.

Have the send-off that he deserves: Root

"For me, all I've ever known for England is playing alongside Jimmy, and that's been for 12 years. It's a bit of a weird one, seeing Stuart [Broad] go last year and [now] Jimmy. I'll terribly miss playing alongside him, but the fact that he'll be around for the summer will be great for the young bowlers coming through and for us to keep using that experience and everything else he has to offer the dressing room," Root said.

Anderson's Test career includes 188 Test matches and 704 wickets, both world records for fast bowlers. He took four wickets in his final outing, including three in the West Indies' second innings.

When asked about his own future, Root dismissed any immediate plans to retire. "Not at the minute. I'd like to think I'll be playing for a good while yet. My focus is purely on scoring as many runs for this team as I can and helping us win as many games as we can."

England and West Indies will face off in the second Test at Trent Bridge on Thursday (July 18).
