England's great James Anderson, one of the finest Test bowlers, has announced his retirement, leaving fans in disbelief.

As England edged closer to victory in the first Test against West Indies at Lord's, needing just one more wicket, it was Anderson who had the chance to seal the win on the third day but dropped a crucial catch.

The incident occurred in the 44th over of the West Indies' innings. James Anderson bowled a fuller delivery angled back on the off stump, which Gudakesh Motie pushed back down the track.

It presented a simple return chance for Anderson, but he casually extended one hand towards the ball and failed to hold on, missing his fourth wicket in the second innings.

This dropped catch was particularly poignant as it happened in Anderson’s final Test match. Despite the missed opportunity, England managed to secure the victory. Gus Atkinson took the final wicket, giving England a comprehensive win by an innings and 114 runs, and a 1-0 lead in the series.

Anderson's illustrious 21-year Test career came full circle at Lord's, the ground where he made his Test debut in 2003 against Zimbabwe. Known for his remarkable performances, Anderson's career-best figures of 7-42 against the West Indies in 2017 were also recorded at Lord's.
