Indian batting star Shubman Gill believes that skipper Rohit Sharma is not holding back on hyping up Yashasvi Jaiswal after his Rajkot show, where he scored a sensational double century.

Jaiswal's phenomenal double ton in the third Test at Rajkot, his second in as many matches, left spectators awestruck. Following India's monumental 434-run triumph, Rohit, addressing the media, kept his assessment of the opener's performance concise.

During the press conference before the fourth Test in Ranchi, Gill was asked if Rohit Sharma was being cautious with his compliments for Jaiswal, worried the youngster might get a big head. Gill shrugged it off and said:

“I don’t think there’s a problem with the youngsters being not humble. We have seen Jaiswal scoring back-to-back double hundreds. If you don’t have it in you, you won’t be able to do that. There aren’t many people in world Test cricket who have scored back-to-back double hundreds. He definitely is a sensational player. We have seen it over 8-9 Tests."

“I don’t think there’s any conscious decision. Maybe Rohit bhai didn’t want to talk about it at that point of time,” Gill added.

Jaiswal's series against England has been nothing short of spectacular, with 545 runs to his name from six innings. He now joins the exclusive club of Indian batters to surpass the 500-run milestone against England, a feat achieved only eight times before.

With just 111 more runs in the next two matches, he could surpass Virat Kohli's record (655 runs in the 2016/17 series) for the most runs scored by an Indian batter in a Test series against England.
