Shannon Young, Australia's premium power-hitting coach, has recently stepped forward to support Pakistan's T20I captain Babar Azam. This support is particularly significant as Azam has been facing criticism from all quarters of the cricketing world.

Following Pakistan's unprecedented early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, Babar Azam's captaincy and the team were also subjected to bad press.

This was the first time in the tournament's history that a Pakistan team failed to advance into the Super 8 stage, a fact that left many cricket enthusiasts in disbelief.

With rising questions over Pakistan and Babar's captaincy, the skipper has found some solace under Young's wings. Young strongly believes that he is a "world-class" player.

AUS Coach Shannon Young Talks About Babar Azam:

“Babar Azam is well, he is a world-class player. If there was a player like Babar in Australia, we would have been supporting him instead of criticizing.

"In Australia, we back them in and we say they've been world-class players, they're gonna be world-class players again. I think sometimes the passion tips over that these guys carry so much expectation through Pakistan's one of the best players in the world, he's gonna be fine," Young told GeoNews.

Talking about Babar Azam's performance at the T20 World Cup this year, he scored 122 runs from four innings without any fifties.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will host Bangladesh for a two-match Test series from August 21.
