The Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) recently closed applications for the Indian men's cricket team's head coach position, with the deadline passing on May 27, a day after the conclusion of IPL 2024.

Amid the search, legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni has emerged as a notable candidate. Although the BCCI has not confirmed any specific names, and no Australian cricketers have been approached, speculation is rife. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah hinted that the replacement for Rahul Dravid would likely be an Indian.

Reports suggest Gautam Gambhir as the frontrunner, but Virat Kohli's childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has proposed a different candidate: MS Dhoni.

Speaking on India News' program "CRICIT PREDICTA," the Dronacharya awardee said, "I would like that whoever becomes the coach should be an Indian. If Mahendra Singh Dhoni announces retirement, he can prove to be a good option. He has played a lot of cricket and has won big tournaments."

The 42-year-old wicket-keeper batter has not officially announced his retirement from the IPL. While IPL 2024 was anticipated to be his final season, the Chennai Super Kings legend has left fans guessing. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanath has even indicated expectations for Dhoni's return next season.

Dhoni was last seen in Ranchi with his bike. According to reports, he might go to London for muscle tear surgery.
