Pakistan star Saud Shakeel inadvertently trolled the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the constant shuffling of national head coaches. The 29-year-old recently represented the Pakistan team at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year. However, Shakeel was subsequently dropped by the PCB for Pakistan’s white-ball tour of New Zealand.

In a recent interview, the cricketer was given a hypothetical scenario, where he was asked what changes he would make if he ever became the chairman of the PCB. Saud Shakeel laughingly responded that in such a case, he would bring in a permanent head coach who would stay on to the position without interruption for at least three years.

The Pakistan cricket team is currently undergoing one of its toughest phases in recent memory. Apart from forming an undesirable string of defeats, several head coaches have also tendered their resignations from the Pakistan team.

Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel stepped down as Pakistan bowling coach in late-2023. Moreover, in the space of just a few months, both Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie stepped down as Pakistan head coaches owing to alleged power struggles with the PCB.

During a recent interview, Pakistan cricketer Saud Shakeel indirectly trolled PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi by stating that he would bring in a permanent head coach for at least on a three-year contract if he ever came to power as chairman.

“If I become the PCB Chairman first I will bring a permanent coach for 3 years.”

Notably, Saud Shakeel is not the only Pakistan star who has criticized Mohsin Naqvi’s regime as PCB chairman. On the same day, former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal demanded for the resignation for Naqvi owing to Pakistan’s recent struggles across all formats.

The Pakistan cricket team is currently in New Zealand for eight white-ball fixtures. After losing the five-match T20I rubber by a 1-4 margin, the ‘Men in Green’ have now conceded the ODI series by losing the first two games.
