The previous month was all about some unmissable red-ball encounters, and the England vs India Test series was the biggest highlight. Facing fierce English conditions, Shubman Gill’s captaincy debut series ended in a hard-fought draw.

Along with leading the team from the front, Team India’s newest Test skipper stunned the world with his batting brilliance. After bagging his fourth ICC Player of the Month award, he reflected on the most cherished moment of the tour.

A Memory Etched In Time

After Rohit Sharma’s Test exit, Shubman Gill took the helm and became India’s 37th Test skipper. As criticism soared ahead of the England series, skipper Shubman Gill silenced all the buzz with his excellence in his captaincy debut series in England. While leading the team towards the goal, Gill raised his bat high and ended up being the highest run scorer of the series with 754 runs.

Those brilliant knocks in the Test series earned him his fourth ICC Player of the Month award, and he became the first male cricketer to reach the milestone. In a chat with ICC after claiming the honour, Gill revealed his favourite memory from the just-concluded series.

“It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England,” Gill said.

Gill’s Dream Run Against England

Making his Test debut in 2020 against Australia, Shubman Gill rose through the ranks quickly with his brilliance. But the cricket world was yet to see his dream run in the longest format before the Test series against England. Taking the big responsibility, Gill turned into something new. In the first Test, he announced his arrival with an exceptional knock of 147 runs.

After a dreamy start, the Birmingham crowd witnessed Gill’s best form in Test cricket. Scoring an outstanding double hundred in the first innings, he scored another thrilling ton in the second innings. His century in the fourth Test cemented India’s dominance, finishing the series with 754 runs, being the highest run scorer of the series.
