As the woes are continuing in the Pakistan cricket team, the last ODI series defeat against the West Indies has been added to their ongoing setbacks. In the third ODI, their batting collapsed spectacularly, and the Men in Green suffered a crushing 202-run defeat.
This big defeat has marked its position in Pakistan’s cricket history as their fourth-largest defeat in ODI cricket. Here’s a look at five of Pakistan’s biggest defeats by runs in ODIs.
5. 198 vs England In Nottingham In 1992
Back in 1992, England and Pakistan were facing each other in a thrilling ODI series. In the 3rd ODI at Nottingham, Pakistan faced a massive setback. While batting first, England posted a total of 363 runs.
Chasing down the big total, Pakistan’s batting lineup faltered against the lethal English bowling attack. Captain Saleem Malik tried to make an impact, but Illingworth sent him back in 45. As the other batters failed to make an impact, Pakistan faced a 198-run defeat, marking their fifth biggest defeat in ODIs.
4. 202 vs West Indies in Tarouba, 2025
Pakistan’s recently ended ODI series caused one of their biggest heartbreak in recent times. As the Men in Green faced the West Indies in the third ODI, they gripped some early domination, but the West Indies batters’ brilliance turned the tide. Chasing a challenging target of 295, Pakistan found themselves staring at an uphill battle from the outset.
The top order failure grabbed the limelight once again. Just as they looked to take control, West Indies pacer Jayden Seales delivered a stunning spell, bagging six wickets and dismantling the chase. With that, Pakistan registered their fourth biggest defeat in ODIs by 202 runs.
3. 224 vs Australia In Nairobi In 2002
In 2002, the cricket world witnessed a thrilling ODI series between Australia and Pakistan, but the second ODI was one of the biggest heartbreaks for the Men in Green. While batting first, Australia put on a massive total of 332 runs, depending on Matthew Hayden’s outstanding 146-run knock.
While chasing down the total, the Pakistani batters were blown away by the Australian bowling attack. As Azhar Mahmood and Shoaib Malik tried to turn the tide, Jason Gillespie shattered Pakistan’s batting lineup with a thrilling 5-wicket haul. The Men in Green ultimately slumped to a crushing 224-run defeat.
2. 228 vs India In Colombo In 2023
The India-Pakistan match always adds some extra spice to any tournament, but their clash in the Asia Cup 2023 remained an iconic one. While batting first, Team India got a great start, but Virat Kohli and KL Rahul set the stage on fire with their sensational tons. With that dominance, Team India put a massive total of 356 runs on the board.
Chasing down the total, the Pakistani batters felt the heat as the Indian bowlers troubled them since early on. Kuldeep Yadav wreaked havoc, claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul that dismantled the lineup. With the 228-run defeat in the match, Pakistan marked their second biggest ODI defeat.
1. 234 vs Sri Lanka In Lahore In 2009
The ODI series against Sri Lanka in 2009 has been the biggest heartbreak for Pakistan even now. Facing Pakistan in the third ODI, Sri Lanka had a brilliant start while batting first. Tillakaratne Dilshan led the way with a thrilling 137-run knock, and the other batters made their impact. With that, they put on a total of 309 runs on the board.
Chasing the total in the second innings, Pakistan had a nightmare as their batting order crumbled horribly under pressure. Umar Gul’s 27 was the lone highlight as Pakistan collapsed to just 75 all out. As Sri Lanka defeated them by 234-runs, it is still marked as their biggest ODI defeat by runs.
