Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has created history by winning the ICC Player of the Month award for July 2025. Gill earned this honour after a spectacular run of form in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, where he smashed loads of runs and set multiple records.
Out of these, 567 runs and 3 hundreds came in July alone. His most remarkable performance was in the second Test at Edgbaston, where he scored 269 and 161 in the same match. This gave him a total of 430 runs in that Test, the second-highest aggregate ever in a single match and the most by any player in an away Test.
Shubman Gill Tops Elite List With 4th ICC POTM Award
Having said that, this is Shubman Gill’s fourth ICC Player of the Month award, making him the first male cricketer in history to reach this milestone. He overtook Pakistan star Babar Azam, who had won the award three times.
Gill previously won the award in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025. He has now also become the first player to win the honour twice in the same year more than once, achieving it in 2023 and again in 2025.
With this record, Gill tops an elite list of Indian cricketers who have won the most number of Player of the Month awards. Here’s a full list.
