After clinching the ODI World Cup trophy, the Women in Blue are back in the business as they are facing Sri Lanka Women in a thrilling T20I series. The series started with a dominating victory, but debutant Vaishnavi Sharma’s performance impressed the fans.
She didn’t take any wickets, but the economical spell grabbed the attention. After India sealed the win, she opened up about the emotions that flooded in during her debut outing.
Vaishnavi opens up on her debut performance
Every youngster who steps onto a cricket field carries the dream of wearing the national colours one day. In the last match against the Sri Lanka Women, young bowler Vaishnavi Sharma lived in a dream. Making her debut against the opponent, she stunned the world with her excellence.
In her debut game, she may not have picked wickets, but her economical bowling stunned the world. Bowling her full four overs, the youngster conceded just 16 runs without giving away a single boundary. As the world came to hail her heroics, the youngster reflected on her own performance.
“I am very happy that I was able to execute my plan. There are four more matches to go,” she said.
Wearing the national jersey on the big stage brings immense responsibility, and the first step is often filled with nerves. There was nothing different for Vaishnavi, candidly admitting that she, too, felt the pressure before making her debut.
“I was nervous before the national anthem. After that, I calmed down,” she added.
Vaishnavi prefers the present over future plans
As the T20 World Cup is coming close, India Women found a gem in the young bowler. As she has already stunned the world with her heroics in the debut match, the game will expect more. Reflecting on this, she remained grounded, keeping her focus firmly on representing the team rather than worrying about what the future holds.
“We have worked hard for this. Our dream is to represent India and contribute. I can’t say much about the future. Let’s have it to God,” she added.
Facing the Sri Lanka Women in the last match, India Women registered an 8-wicket victory, taking a lead of 1-0. As the second T20I match is scheduled for December 23, fans are up for another gripping contest.
