Shikhar Dhawan was elated after Punjab Kings outclassed Delhi Capitals in their inaugural game of the IPL 2024 season. The skipper offered credit where it's due to Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone for their terrific finish in the death.

DC batted first against PBKS earlier today, and despite the fall of wickets at regular intervals, Delhi managed to post a 175-run target.

And DC managed to pull things back until Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran demolished Delhi's death bowling unit to finish the chase with four balls to spare. Their match-winning 67-run partnership guided PBKS to their maiden IPL win.

Having said that, after the game, PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan expressed how excited he felt to be back on the field after a long break. He was confused and nervous since competitiveness was at its peak in the IPL. But he is overall relieved to have kick-started the tournament with a win.

"Yeah, it feels great. I was happy to be on the ground and I've been preparing for this tournament, actually, after the last IPL, this IPL I'm playing such a highly competitive cricket, so I was a bit nervous as well," said Dhawan.

Dhawan added that he didn't talk much to Harshal Patel while he was getting hit for 25 runs in the death. He was more focused on his plans as he had to open next.

"I didn't chat with anyone because I was supposed to go for the batting and bowlers go through their own emotions, so I would rather let them in their own space. And once things get calmed down, then we go and chat. And we got tomorrow, so we'll chat tomorrow and learn to get better," he added.

However, Shikhar Dhawan defended his bowlers, saying that in the first game, nerves got the better of them.

Furthermore, Dhawan explained that the wicket played better under the light, and Sam Curran's partnership with Liam Livingston was the key difference between the two sides.

"I felt that we leaked a few extra runs and of course, it's the first match, so nerves are there and that's normal and it's fine. I feel that under the light, the wicket played better and we got off to a good start. And then Sam played an amazing inning and then Liam finished it nicely. It is a new ground, so the focus was on using our brains and assessing the field," Dhawan concluded.

With a day's gap left until PBKS steps out for the next game, Shikhar Dhawan is confident of sorting out issues sooner rather than later.
