In what could turn out to be a massive boost to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lineup this IPL season, deceptive Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana is set to join the squad in Chennai ahead of the team's impending clash against Gujarat Titans.

Defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kicked off the IPL 2024 season with a thumping over RCB in the league opener. Despite a change in leadership, Ruturaj Gaikwad embraced the daunting challenge gracefully.

Having said that, CSK fielded a half-strength lineup against RCB as their trump fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana was missing from the squad.

Pathirana, well-known for his spot-on yorkers and deceptive variations, sustained a Grade 1 hamstring injury during the recently concluded T20 series against Bangladesh.

He was declared unfit by the Sri Lanka cricket board, and hence, the pacer couldn't join CSK in time for the season opener.

While Matheesha Pathirana was expected to skip the initial few games of IPL 2024 season, the pacer dropped a positive and encouraging hint on his social media earlier today.

Pathirana uploaded a story on his Instagram handle where is seen boarding a plane to India. He also dropped a yellow heart as caption to suggest his destination is indeed Chennai.

Indeed, Matheesha Pathirana's addition is a huge boost for CSK. While Mustafizur Rahman did a terrific job in his absence, Pathirana is a marquee player whose importance cannot be undermined. 

Overall, it's a good headache for Ruturaj Gaikwad as he navigates CSK's ideal balanced lineup in his first season as CSK's captain.

Notably, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will meet Gujarat Titans (GT) next on March 26th at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
