Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has shed light on his injury setback during the ODI World Cup last year.

Pandya revealed that his eagerness to return to action ahead of the semi-finals or finals exacerbated his injury, ultimately leading to his sidelining for the entire tournament.

As he gears up for his much-awaited comeback in the upcoming IPL 2024, all eyes will be on Mumbai Indians' captain Pandya.

The seam-bowling all-rounder has been out of action since October last year following an injury sustained during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh.

Pandya recently spoke about his injury, describing it as a freak incident that prevented his return for the World Cup semi-finals and finals.

“My injury during the World Cup was a freak injury. I tried to push during that time to return for World Cup semis/finals, it aggravated the injury more. It was a Freak injury,” explained Hardik Pandya at an event.

Pandya's prolonged absence from cricket has attracted criticism from some quarters, with former Indian cricketer Praveen Kumar suggesting that the all-rounder deliberately gets injured before the IPL season to prioritise earning "big bucks" in the lucrative league.

With no cricketing activity in recent months, Pandya will be under scrutiny when the IPL commences. The IPL will also serve as a crucial platform for Pandya to stake his claim for a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
