Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul has been deemed fit for the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League season, which is set to begin on Friday, March 22.

As per a report from the Indian Express, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru has issued Rahul a fitness certificate, paving the way for his return to action.

However, the BCCI's medical team has advised Rahul to refrain from taking up keeping duties initially and focus solely on his batting.

Rahul had reported discomfort in his right quadriceps following the Hyderabad Test and was subsequently sidelined for the remainder of the recently held England Tests

Initially, the BCCI stated that Rahul had attained 90 per cent match fitness and was progressing well under their medical team's supervision. However, they later opted to seek consultation from a specialist in England.

Rahul travelled abroad to seek expert advice, which caused him to miss the fifth Test between India and England in Dharamsala. This was India's final assignment before the IPL.

“He is fit and can join the IPL franchise in the coming days. He suffered pain in the quadriceps and got an injection too. He went through his rehabilitation and the NCA has now declared him fit. However, he has been advised not to take on the wicket-keeping role immediately,”  a source within the BCCI disclosed.

Nicholas Pooran, LSG's vice-captain, is most likely to keep the wickets for the first few games until Rahul recovers.

The upcoming season of the IPL is important for Rahul as he is one of the contenders for the wicket-keeper batters' role in the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in June later this year.

The KL Rahul-led LSG will kick off their campaign against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on Sunday (March 24).
