Former MI pacer Praveen Kumar has stirred the cricketing world with his recent allegations against star all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Mumbai Indians' surprising move to appoint Pandya as captain for the upcoming IPL season has sparked controversy, especially with the replacement of the seasoned Rohit Sharma, who led the franchise to a record five IPL victories.

Praveen Kumar, known for his blunt demeanor, didn't hold back when addressing the issue. He criticized Pandya for his lack of commitment to national and state cricket, citing his injury two months prior to the IPL and subsequent absence from both international and domestic matches.

Kumar emphasized the importance of balancing financial gains with loyalty to the sport and representing one's country and state.

"You got injured two months before the IPL, you don’t play for the country, you don’t play for your state in domestic cricket, and just directly play in the IPL. That’s not how things should be done. It’s okay to earn money; there’s nothing wrong in that. But it’s not good to neglect your cricket for state and country and only give importance to the IPL,”  remarked Kumar.

Hardik Pandya in IPL faces a daunting task, stepping into the shoes of Rohit Sharma, who led Mumbai Indians to five titles. Pandya must deliver definitive results to appease the fanbase while also focusing on personal growth after an ankle injury during the ICC ODI World Cup in 2023.

The pressure on him is immense to prove himself not only as an all-rounder but also as a capable successor to Sharma's leadership. Mumbai Indians kick off their IPL 2024 season against Gujarat Titans on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
