Glenn Maxwell is one of the most fearsome batters in world cricket, and whenever he gets going, it is pretty hard to stop him. However, consistency has not been his strong suit over the years, and he is often guilty of throwing away his starts.

Glenn Maxwell Fails To Step Up For Australia Again

Now, in the first T20I against South Africa, he has again done the same. Maxwell came out to bat at number seven with five wickets down in the seventh over. The home team, Australia needed him to dig deep and bat long, but Glenn Maxwell could not resist. On the fourth ball of the 8th over, Glenn Maxwell went aerial against Senuran Muthuswamy and paid a heavy price.

It was a full delivery between off and middle, and Maxwell made room to hit it towards deep extra cover. However, he did not get the middle of his blade, and the ball went left to the cover fielder. George Linde in the deep, covered a lot of ground and dived full-length to grab a stunning catch.

South Africa Take Pole Position With Regular Strikes In 1st T20I

Glenn Maxwell fell for just a single run, and his wicket reduced Australia to 75 for six, and it is now upto Tim David to take Australia to a strong total. Earlier, South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first, a decision that has so far worked in the visitors' favour.

The match started with Mitchell Marsh smashing a couple of boundaries, but Travis Head and Josh Inglis departed on consecutive deliveries, and it put Australia on the backfoot. They still kept going for their shots, and Cameron Green smashed 35 runs off just 13 balls. However, wickets kept falling at the other end, and it has brought all the responsibility on Tim David's shoulders.
