Bangladesh spinner Rishad Hossain has offered an unconditional apology to England pacer Tom Curran and New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell. With the trio having recently represented Qalandars in Pakistan Super League 2025, the matter revolves around Hossain’s statement getting misinterpreted in the media.
Due to the India-Pakistan cross-border tension, the 10th season of the PSL had to be suspended much like the Indian Premier League. During a safe transition to Dubai, Hossain caught up with Bangladeshi journalists to reveal that while Curran was "crying like a little child", Mitchell had vowed to never return to Pakistan citing the current situation.
In hindsight, the right-arm spinner acknowledged providing details in an emotional state. Additionally, he highlighted how a misinterpretation has resulted in creating a “false narrative”.
“The comment was made during a brief interview with Bangladeshi journalists while I was in transit at Dubai airport. It lacked full context and unintentionally overstated the emotions involved. I sincerely regret any misunderstanding it may have caused. I've offered an unconditional apology to Daryl Mitchell and Tom Curran. I hold deep respect for my fellow teammates and truly value the Qalandars brotherhood – where we always stand by one another, no matter what,” Hossain wrote on social media platform Facebook.
A Mediocre Season For Lahore Qalandars Thus Far
The only franchise to win back-to-back PSL titles, Lahore Qalandars were in the middle of a mediocre PSL season at the time of a disruption. Having won and lost four matches each with only one more to be played, LQ weren’t guaranteed to qualify for the playoffs.
Having played all their nine matches, Mitchell scored 241 runs at an average and strike rate of 26.77 and 154.48 respectively to be their third-highest run-scorer. While Hossain played only five matches (nine wickets at an average of 16.44, an economy rate of 8.70 and a strike rate of 11.33), Curran was handed just three opportunities (two wickets at 24, 6.85 and 21 respectively).
As things stand, there is no clarity as to when PSL 2025 would resume.
