On Monday, May 12, Virat Kohli bid adieu to Test cricket as he announced his retirement from Test cricket. The last few days have been tough for India fans as Rohit Sharma has also left the red-ball cricket.

India will now tour England for a five-match Test series and the WTC runners-up will miss the likes of Rohit and Kohli. It is not a usual sight in India's Test set-up to be without Rohit and Kohli. Thus, this article will look at the last time when India were without Rohit Sharma and Virat in a Test match.

When Was The Last Time India Played A Test Without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli?

It is worth noting that it was back in 2022 that India played a Test match without having Rohit or Virat in the team. It was the 2nd Test between South Africa and India in Johannesburg, where Kohli who was then captain, missed the match due to an upper back spasm while Rohit Sharma was unavailable for the entire series with a hamstring injury.

The series also went down in history as the subcontinent side went onto lose that game by seven wickets and Virat also returned for the 3rd Test, following which he also stepped down as the captain and the role was taken over by Rohit Sharma.

Thus after a long gape of nearly three years, India will be without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the first Test against England. Notably, Shubman Gill is likely to be the next India captain, while Rishabh Pant is set to be his deputy.
