Veteran Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Moeen Ali was taken to the cleaners by Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag at the Eden Gardens today. Ali, who picked two wickets for just 11 runs in his first two overs (including one in the powerplay), leaked as many as 32 runs in his third over.

With KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane bringing the off-spinner into the attack for the third time in the match, the move backfired when Parag hit a total of five sixes in one over to potentially change the course of the match. By the end of the over, Ali’s bowling figures read 3-0-43-2.

Fifth batter to achieve the milestone in Indian Premier League history, Parag also became the first right-handed batter to do so. RR, who needed 105 runs in eight overs with five wickets in hand to seal a 207-run chase before the start of Ali’s over, required 73 off seven overs after Parag’s carnage.

Moeen Ali Bowls The 4th Most Expensive Over In IPL History

Flexing his muscle against a bowler who was turning the ball into him, Parag hit five back-to-back sixes after Shimron Hetmyer started the over by running a single.

While the first four sixes were all hit on the leg side, Ali’s attempt to bowl wide off the batter didn’t bring any change for him. Having already scored a half-century, Parag was set enough to hit a wide delivery over long-off for another maximum.

In what ended up becoming the fourth most expensive over in the cash-rich league, it was the most expensive for a Knight Riders bowler.

Notably, Parag had shared an inner feeling around hitting four sixes in an over during IPL 2023. While it took him two more years to execute something he had manifested, hitting five in a row was icing on the cake.

For those who don’t know, playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru six years ago, Ali had made mockery out of then Kolkata-spinner Kuldeep Yadav on the back of scoring 27 runs in one over.
