Kolkata Knight Riders are all in readiness of donning a special jersey during their last Indian Premier League 2025 home league match against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. In fact, players also wore a slightly different jersey during training today.

All of this is part of a novel Shahoshi Rani initiative which aims at upskilling women in underserved communities. For those who don’t know, Shahoshi Rani translates to “brave woman” in Bengali, an Indo-Aryan language primarily spoken in the Indian state of West Bengal (whose capital is Kolkata) and Bangladesh.

Through impactful programs such as Play It Forward, Skill Up for Equality, and the Vidushee Programme, Knight Riders are committed to creating change outside of a cricket field.

KKR’s Jerseys To Have Names Of Shahoshi Ranis

In addition to a customized logo with regard to the initiative, players and support staff will also don the name of a Shahoshi Rani on the jersey in order to honour them at the Eden Gardens.

Notably, as many as 40 Shahoshi Ranis were present at the ground during training which included having interactions with the squad and co-owner Juhi Chawla. While the franchise has already launched a social media campaign around the same, these interactions were documented and will be shared across social media platforms in the near future.

Shahoshi Rani is more than just a campaign, it’s a celebration of real courage. These women are an inspiration, and we are honoured to share our platform with them. We hope their stories move others as much as they’ve moved us,” Chawla said in a statement.

It is worth a mention that almost all IPL franchises run such CSR initiatives in some form or the other. Additionally, wearing an entirely different or a slightly modified jersey once a season is also customary to franchises in the cash-rich league.

KKR Aim To Win Last Home Match

Currently at the sixth position on the points table, Kolkata have won and lost five matches each at this point in time. Having won just two out of their first six home matches this season, the Ajinkya Rahane-led team would be keen to end their home journey on a high.

Moreover, for the defending champions to qualify for the playoffs, winning their remaining three matches would be ideal. With CSK losing four matches in a row to be reeling at the bottom of the table, the hosts would be itching to beat them for the second time this season. Assuming it happens, it would be their first win against this opposition at this venue in the last seven years.
