Team India flattened Nepal by 10 wickets in their final Group A game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. While the later of the two teams crashed out of the tournament owing to their defeat, they did so after putting up a remarkable fight in the initial stages of the game.

Impressed with Nepal cricketers, several Indian seniors facilitated the underachievers with a mock medal ceremony after their match. While Hardik Pandya and Indian coach Rahul Dravid gave away a medal each to Nepal stars Sompal Kami and Dipendra Singh respectively, batting great Virat Kohli handed out one to half-centurion Aasif Sheikh.

Sheikh later revealed that Kohli made a hilarious joke while giving him the medal, one which incited a laugh-riot within the dressing room.

Virat Kohli jokingly asked for a medal for himself

Batting first, Nepal raced to team 50 inside nine overs off the back of suave starts from openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh. The latter of the two even compiled a crafty half-century, to guide his side past through the mini batting collapse after their opening blitz.

Remarkably, Sheikh was all set to depart within the second over of the match itself. However, Virat Kohli ended up dropping a sitter inside the ring, allowing Nepal opener to cash-in on the opportunity by making Indians pay for their fielding blunder.

Kohli, while gifting a medal to Sheikh after India’s 10-wicket routing of Nepal, jokingly asked for a medal for himself because he had dropped the latter’s catch in the game.

Team India will now face Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 to launch their share of Super Four matches in Sri Lanka.

The match is slated to be played on September 10.
