Saim Ayub packed 62 scintillating runs against Trinbago Knight Riders to power Guyana Amazon Warriors to an emphatic win in their latest CPL 2023 outing. The Pakistan opener made lightwork of his side’s dauting task in the run-chase, as they registered their fourth successive win this season.

Ayub himself smacked his first CPL fifty this year, and his 43-ball thunder at the Queen’s Park Oval was laced with four boundaries and four massive sixes.

Saim Ayub took Guyana Amazon Warriors’ run-chase guard upfront alongside opening partner and local hero Chandrapaul Hemraj. Chasing 173 against the likes of Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Akeal Hosein, the youngster started patiently before unleashing a sequence of four boundaries and four extraordinary sixes.

Reaching 10 from his first 14 deliveries, Ayub stepped down against Hosein to launch the spinner towards the leg side boundary. He also dispatched Knight Riders’ pacer Terrance Hinds twice in three balls to race to 33* off 21.

The 21-year-old eventually made his way back to the pavilion after setting up a successful run-chase for his side with a sparkling 43-ball 62.

Remarkably, Saim Ayub was excluded from Pakistan’s squad for the Asia Cup 2023. A little over a month ago, the batting prodigy starred in Pakistan A’s emphatic victory over their Indian counterparts at the ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup in Colombo, which also happens to be one of the venues of the ongoing senior tournament.

Overall, the Karachi-born player averages close to 40 in first-class cricket. Despite his impressive track record in 50-overs matches, he is yet to be considered for an ODI debut for Pakistan.
