In India's Asia Cup 2023 fixture against Nepal on Monday at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Virat Kohli, regarded as possibly the sharpest athlete in the sport of cricket, dropped a straightforward catch. The 34-year-old, placed at short cover, hopped to catch a simple one off Aasif Sheikh, and ended up making a mess of it.

It was the second ball of the second over, bowled by Mohammed Siraj, which was pitched up outside the off stump. Nepal opener Aasif Sheikh tried to drive it, only to play straight to Kohli. However, Kohli got into an awkward position to grab that, and eventually dropped a sitter.

Unsurprisingly, no one on the field could not believe their eyes after what just happened. Kohli is known for his supreme athletic skills, but a schoolboy error from him left everyone in utter disbelief.

However, it was not only Kohli who was embarrassed by missing a simple catch. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were others who dropped straightforward opportunities inside the first five overs, as Nepal reached 23/0 at the end of five overs. Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, who bowled wonderfully in their opening spells, left disappointed with poor India's fielding performances.
