On this day, two years ago today, late Australian legendary spinner, Shane Warne was full of admiration for Virat Kohli after India had outclassed England by 157 runs in the fourth Test at The Oval.

Shane Warne had lauded Kohli for being the torchbearer for Test cricket's future

Kohli, who was then leading the Indian team, had inspired his team to a remarkable bowling performance on a seemingly passive Oval pitch.

Warne had commented to Sky Sports about the unparalleled influence Kohli wielded in the cricketing world. The Aussie veteran suggested that Kohli's leadership had transformed the Indian team, inculcating in them a belief in their own skills. He emphasized that the team's loyalty and dedication to Kohli were evident.

“He's got the respect of all the players. They back him and they play for him. It's important for a captain that a team plays for you. I think the way Virat conducts himself, we've all got to say, ‘Thank You Virat’," said Warne.

Furthermore, Warne had also lauded Kohli's incredible passion for Test cricket. He remarked that while India had already established itself as a dominant force in world cricket, it was Kohli's endorsement and prioritization of Test cricket that made a significant difference.

The Aussie legend inferred that with the global superstar Kohli championing the Test format, its stature was only enhanced.

"He loves Test cricket and he's made it a priority. India is a powerhouse of world cricket and you've got the biggest superstar on the planet in Virat Kohli. So, he’s said to them Test cricket is important, we're going to Australia and win and we're going to England and win with this side," added the second-highest wicket-taker in Tests.

The spin stalwart further highlighted the critical role belief plays in sports and applauded Kohli for instilling this vital attribute in his team, making them not just good on paper but formidable in action.

Warne ended his praise with a heartfelt request to Kohli, expressing the sentiments of many fans: hoping the batting maestro would grace Test cricket with his presence for many more years to come.

"The way he's led them, he's made them believe; belief is such an important part of sports. If you don't believe, you won't succeed no matter how good a side you have. Kohli gives his team the belief and it's great to watch. Long live Test cricket while we've Virat Kohli. Please keep playing for a long long time Virat," concluded Warne.
