Despite being on the edge of exclusion after a spate of inconsistent performances, Iyer's innings, studded with three boundaries and an impressive six sixes, was a masterclass in controlled aggression.

Iyer's response on the field was not just with the bat but also with words after his scintillating knock. While reflecting on the game in the mid-innings break, he expressed his satisfaction with the batting surface, despite the challenges of variable bounce.

Iyer acknowledged the significance of adapting his strategy after observing how the ball behaved, particularly noting the advice passed on to him and KL Rahul that necessitated a tweak in their shot selection.

"I think the surface is pretty good to bat on. The ball was coming on at invariable bounce. I settled first, and then I went after the loose deliveries. That was my plan. KL Rahul and I got a message that the ball was holding on a bit, so we had to adjust our shots accordingly,” said Iyer.

The synergy between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli earlier in the innings also drew praise from Iyer. He highlighted their running between the wickets as a key aspect that laid the groundwork for the onslaught he later unleashed.

“The partnership between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli was of paramount importance. Their running between the wickets was brilliant,” added the Mumbai-based cricketer.

Meanwhile, India's robust total owes much to Iyer's strategic batting during the middle overs, and the fireworks towards the end of the innings. As India gears up to defend the score, the stakes are sky-high, with a victory ensuring a place in the semifinals. Fans and experts alike now wait with anticipation to see if India can capitalize on Iyer's heroics.
