The renowned pacer Pat Cummins recently expressed his doubts about leading Australia throughout his playing career while reflecting on his role in the team. Pat Cummins has become one of the most accomplished captains in the modern era.

Pat Cummins successfully led the Australian team towards their first ICC World Test championship title in 2023 after defeating India in the final.

After the red ball format victory, Cummins led the Kangaroos towards the marquee 6th title of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 by defeating India again in the final. Despite his remarkable achievements in the recent past, the pacer believes that it will be difficult for him to lead the team till his mid-30s.

Pat Cummins offers insight into his future Leadership Role for Australia

In a recent interview, the 30-year-old reminisced on playing for the Australian team for around 7 to 8 years but remains uncertain about leading the side for that long. Pat Cummins also discussed that the duration of his career depends on his form and how his body performs as he gets older. He said,

"In a perfect world, if my form and body could keep up I’d like to be playing into my mid-30s, I’d doubt that I’ll be captaining that long. It’s good to have some freshness every x amount of time. If I’ve got seven or eight years, in a perfect world, of Test cricket I’d be very surprised if I’m captain for the whole time.”

Pat Cummins took over as the red ball captain from Tim Paine and so far has had a dreamy captaincy career. From retaining the Ashes in England to winning the Test series in Pakistan, Cummins has had a striking record as a leader in Tests.

Cummins will next lead Australia for a two-match Test series in New Zealand beginning from the leap day, 29 February in Wellington. The Aussies previously whitewashed the Kiwis at their home in the 3 T20I series after winning the last game in Auckland by 27 runs.
