India's prominent opener Shubman Gill vows to evolve his T20I batting and improve his gameplay in the shortest format.

The stylish batter from Punjab had a torrid run in T20Is before the World Cup in the Caribbean. Despite being given multiple opportunities, Gill failed to cement his place in India's T20I setup.

His prolonged rough patch led to his exclusion from India's T20I squad, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being picked as the third opener for the World Cup.

'Will try to improve my performance' - Shubman Gill

Ahead of the much-awaited three-match series against Sri Lanka, Gill is eyeing his redemption in the shortest format.

Although he regrets not living up to the expectations before the World Cup, he sees himself as an evolved batter at the end of this cycle during which India will play 30-40 T20I matches.

"During the matches before the T20 World Cup, I could not perform to the level that I was expecting from myself," Gill was quoted as saying by Press Trust of India.

"In the upcoming cycle where we will play 30-40 T20Is, I will try to improve my performance as a batsman," he added.

After having an impressive captaincy stint in Zimbabwe, Gill was promoted as India's vice captain in the shortest format.

With Rohit Sharma retired, he is set to open the batting alongside Jaiswal in the Sri Lanka T20Is.
