In the latest development around IPL 2025, there are reports that former India opener Wasim Jaffer is likely to be roped in by Punjab Kings as their head coach.

A report from Indian Express claimed that the 46-year-old will return to Punjab Kings' set-up, replacing Trevor Bayliss, whose two-year contract expired after IPL 2024.

Jaffer has previously served as PBKS batting coach from 2019-2021. He was also roped in as their batting consultant later on but stepped down ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

The Preity Zinta-owned side are still looking for their first trophy in the cash-studded league, and the only time they came close was in 2014 when they lost the finals to Kolkata Knight Riders.

A couple of days ago, there were rumours that PBKS are looking to replace Bayliss with an Indian coach. At the moment, Jaffer is in advanced talks with the club, but an official announcement is yet to be made.

Jaffer's Coaching History

Besides the IPL, Jaffer has served as head coach of Uttarakhand and Odisha. However, his stint with Uttarakhand was marred with controversy as he was accused of selection bias by the players, following which he stepped down from his role as head coach. The players even accused Jaffer of favouring muslim players in the team, which the former India opener denied.
