Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of the West Zone, played a defining role in shaping the cricketing journey of young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. While West Zone emerged victorious, the match became unforgettable for Jaiswal’s impressive turnaround, scoring 265 runs in the second innings and earning the 'Player of the Match' award.

However, the story took a dramatic turn on the final day when Rahane took a serious stand against Jaiswal's undisciplined behaviour. The young opener had been sledging South Zone’s batsman Ravi Teja, prompting warnings from the umpires. Rahane decided to bench Jaiswal, and in the 57th over, after a repeated incident, Jaiswal was asked to leave the field, leaving West Zone with only 10 players for a few overs.

This decisive action by Rahane proved to be a turning point in Jaiswal’s career. Forced to reflect on his behaviour, Jaiswal emerged as a more disciplined and focused player. Previously known for his batting prowess, he began to channel his energy positively.

Since that incident, Jaiswal's cricketing journey has been remarkable. From his record-breaking List A double century at 17 to his standout performances in the Under-19 World Cup, Jaiswal continued to rise. Despite a modest IPL 2022 season, the following year saw him scoring 625 runs in 14 matches with an impressive average and strike rate.

His outstanding form in IPL 2023 earned Jaiswal a spot in the national team. Making his Test debut against the West Indies, he showcased remarkable innings, scoring 171 runs and earning the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

In Tests, Jaiswal has scored 637 runs at an average of 57.90, including two centuries. His T20I record is equally impressive, with 502 runs at an average of 33.46.

In the ongoing Test series against England, Jaiswal scored 209, etching his name in history as he became the third youngest Indian cricketer to score a double century.
