Having rejoined the New Zealand squad after a long hiatus, pacer Trent Boult spoke about the excitement of playing for BlackCaps once again. He also asserted that the Kiwis will be looking to win the ongoing three-match series against Australia.

Boult was included in the playing XI for the second T20I at Eden Park in Auckland, replacing New Zealand's most successful T20I bowler, Tim Southee. He returned to New Zealand earlier in the week from the United Arab Emirates, where he emerged victorious in the International League T20 with MI Emirates last weekend.

Leading the pace attack, Boult secured 16 wickets from 12 matches in his second ILT20 campaign, marking his fifth T20 campaign since becoming a globe-trotting free agent 18 months ago, with stints in Australia, India, and the USA.

Renowned as one of the finest T20 bowlers globally, Boult is expected to feature in the last T20I as well, scheduled to be played on February 25 against the full-strength Australian team.

Expressing his delight at his return and outlining plans against the Aussies, Boult said:

"Nice to be back in the blue clothing. Just looking to make the most of it because it's a big series on a big stage and I can't wait. It was a great way to start the series. Australia proved they’re a good team. It's gonna be a great week of cricket. Hopefully, we can do something special, and obviously taking the series 2-1 would be pretty tasty," in a video released by the BlackCaps on Instagram.

Since Boult and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) agreed to terminate his central contract early in the 2022-23 season, transitioning into a more informal relationship, his intentions have remained guarded.

While it was evident he would participate in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and last year’s ODI World Cup in India, Boult's inclusion in this year's T20 World Cup, set to take place in the West Indies and the USA, is now apparent, with coach Gary Stead also endorsing his involvement. However, Boult's future beyond June remains uncertain, with the next major event on the Black Caps’ calendar being the ODI Champions Trophy in Pakistan around this time next year.

His first T20I appearance since November 2022 did not go as planned, conceding 49 runs in his four overs at an economy rate of 12.2 without claiming a wicket against Australia in Auckland.
