'Question Only MS Dhoni Can...' - Parthiv Patel On CSK Skipper's Future Ahead Of IPL 2024

MS Dhoni is set to reprise his role as CSK skipper in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter was retained by the franchise back in November 2023 on IPL 2024 retention day.

Dhoni, who announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020, continues to ply his trade in annual IPL events. In his previous competitive outing, MSD led CSK to their fifth title victory by upstaging Gujarat Titans in the final of the IPL 2023.

Aged 42 at the time, several fans and experts speculated the season to be MS Dhoni’s final appearance before CSK confirmed his career extension later that same year.

As IPL 2024 approaches, discussions around his potential retirement have once again emerged around the cricketing spectrum. 

Former Indian player and Dhoni’s ex-CSK teammate Parthiv Patel recently gave a staunch reply involving the cricketer’s future, when he was asked about the same during an expert analysis on JioCinema.


Parthiv Patel responds to Dhoni’s retirement discussions

Parthiv Patel said that MS Dhoni only comes out to play for CSK once in every 10 months, and yet, every time the fans and experts end up discussing around the cricketer’s future. The former Indian player claimed that any or all discussions around Dhoni’s future are futile as the legendary wicketkeeper himself is the best candidate to give out any confirmation.

While speaking with JioCinema, Parthiv Patel said: “Coming off to play once every 10 months, every time we end up talking about these two months being his (Dhoni) last of cricket...This is a question that only he can answer.”

Under MS Dhoni, the CSK franchise will commence their title-defence campaign in IPL 2024 with a home game against the RCB. The much-awaited contest will be played on March 22.

As per the first phase of IPL 2024 schedule issued by the BCCI, the CSK franchise is lined up to play four matches until April 5.
