The upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which will take place in India, has expectations from fans, former players, and critics sky high from Rohit Sharma and Co. The Rohit-led side will look to rekindle memories from the World Cup 2011, where MS Dhoni captained India to their second-ever 50-overs title playing at home.

As is the case during the 2011 WC, where Indian players wanted to lift the trophy for Sachin Tendulkar, the buzz is that current players should win the title for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have been long-serving members of the Indian team.

Both Sharma and Kohli are nearing the completion of their international careers and will want to leave on a crescendo. Talking about India's most famed batting duo, former captain Sourav Ganguly stated that he believes in performances more than in the first or last time debate.

As quoted by Hindustan Times, the former BCCI president said that Sharma and Kohli will be eager to perform and win the title.

Here's what Sourav said about Rohit, Virat:

"I don't believe too much in last time, first time. I believe in performances. I think they are 34-35, I don't know what's going to happen in the next World Cup. There are world tournaments every year - T20 cricket, 50-over cricket."

"It's not like as in the past when we started - one every four years and then the Champions Trophy came in. So it's about performances and I am sure Rohit as captain and Virat will be wanting to make it a big one not from a personal point of view but from winning it. I think that's the biggest."

India kicks off their CWC 2023 campaign against five-time champions Australia on October 8, and plays their arch-rivals Pakistan on October 15.
