In what could be defined as the match of the tournament thus far, the Group A encounter between West Indies and Netherlands in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 produced a thriller at Harare, that went down to super-over, despite a total of 748 runs being scored.

West Indies batting first slammed 374 for 6, courtesy of Nicholas Pooran's 65-ball 104*. However, not to be bogged down, the Dutch batters came out with clear intent and ended up making 374 as well, with Teja Nidamanuru scoring 111 off 76.

In the super-over, Logan van Beek hammered Jason Holder for 30 runs, leaving West Indies with an improbable target of 31 off 6, which the Netherlands defended quite easily and pocketed two crucial points.

Windies skipper Shai Hope, speaking in the post-match presentation, expressed his shock at bowlers failing to defend 374 runs, something that the team management backed them to achieve.

Here's what Hope said

"We just let ourselves down. I can't see us scoring 375 and losing. Honestly, I thought it was enough. I expected the bowlers to do the job. Just unfortunate we lost. The picture is right in front of us now. We need to do better."

Regardless, West Indies have qualified for the Super Sixes stage, and will be faced with a daunting challenge to go-ahead into the main draw, given their points scenario.
