Joe Root has signed with the Paarl Royals for the upcoming season of the SA20 [X]
The SA20 has seen two successful seasons already. The third season of this tournament is slated to start on the 9th of January 2025. It is expected that the final will be played on the 8th of February.
At present, it is a six-team tournament, and all the teams are a branch of six different Indian franchises. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape (sister franchise of Sunrisers Eastern Cape) have won both the seasons that have been played so far.
The five other teams are now getting ready to take the trophy away from the Eastern Cape. As a part of the preparation, the management is signing players to fill the gaps that were evident during the first two seasons.
Joe Root joins Paarl Royals
In the latest turn of events, the Paarl Royals have signed the English star batter Joe Root. This new signing will add more stability to an already solid and explosive batting order comprising Jason Roy, Jos Buttler and David Miller.
Notably, Joe Root was also picked up by Rajasthan Royals (the mother franchise of the Royals) during the IPL 2023 mini-auction at a price of INR 1 Cr. Root played three games for the team and scored 10 runs in them and also bowled a couple of overs without picking up a wicket. Both the Royals management and Joe Root will hope that this stint will turns out to be more successful.
Royals' performance in the first two seasons
The Royals finished in the fourth spot in the points table during the first season and then lost in the semi-final against the Pretoria Capitals. This performance was followed by them finishing in the third position next season in SA20 2024. However, in this case, too, they did not make it to the final as they lost to Joburg Super Kings in the Eliminator and bowed out of the tournament.
