After Team India’s last defeat at Lord’s sparked outrage as their batting failure sparked concerns. Despite chasing a modest total in the last innings, the visitors faced a devastating 22-run defeat.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s recent slump has raised serious concerns, as his recent dismissal in the third Test added more fuel to it. Former batter Robin Uthappa pointed out that Jaiswal looked unsure of his approach while chasing, adding to the growing concerns.
Uthappa Reflects On Jaiswal’s Recent Struggle
After some exceptional knocks initially, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s sword remained silent in recent outings. His struggles deepened in the third Test, as Jofra Archer’s brilliant delivery dismissed him for 13 in the first innings, followed by a 7-ball duck in the second innings. His failure in both innings added to more woes in Team India’s top order.
As his current form is raising eyebrows, former Indian batter Robin Uthappa decoded his struggle. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Uthappa said Yashasvi seemed unsure from the start and called his shot an afterthought.
“Yashasvi was genuinely not comfortable from the word go. You could see through the over that he was confused, so to speak, not clear. Maybe not confused, but just not clear as to how he wants to approach it. Because it was only 190 runs, I think he was half and half. It almost seemed like an afterthought, that shot,” he said.
Nair Leaves It Too Soon And Pays The Price
Coming back to the Indian side after eight long years, Karun Nair got good starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Even after scoring 40 runs in the third Test, the Karnataka batter fell LBW to Brydon Carse in the second innings, scoring only 14 runs in the second innings. Reflecting on his dismissal, Robin Uthappa pointed out that Nair misjudged the ball too early while deciding to leave it.
“He (Nair) left it at the point of delivery. I don't think he watched it coming in and made that decision as the ball came to him. Until that point, that dude was batting solid, man. He is batting so well,” he added.
While chasing a modest total of 193 runs, Team India’s batting collapse handed the hosts a 2-1 series lead. As the next match looms on July 23, Team India will try hard to flip the script with a mighty comeback.
