After 15 long years, Sreesanth opened up about that. Speaking to the sports commentator Padamjit Sherawat on his YouTube channel, the former Indian pacer hinted that his colorful off-field life might have prompted Dhoni’s cheeky remark.

Sreesanth Credits Dhoni for Helping Him Realize His True Worth
Making debut for India in 2005, the Kerala-born Indian pacer developed as one of India’s the trustworthy bowlers of the side. A key figure in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs, he proved his worth on the biggest stages. But it was MS Dhoni who made him realize his own potential on the big stage. In the recent conversation, Sreesanth credited Captain Cool for his transformation.
“The one captain, the one friend who made me understand that my potential could have taken me high, but you could not understand your own potential,” he added.
Even though his international career was cut short, he made his impact in that short time. In 27 Tests, he bagged 87 wickets. In 53 ODIs, he secured 75 wickets. A lifetime ban over spot-fixing allegations ended his journey, but his fiery spells and bowling brilliance remain etched in Indian cricket history.
