India is painted in the tricolour once again. Streets are buzzing, flags are flying high and wishes are pouring in from every nook and cranny of the country and beyond as the nation celebrates its 79th Independence Day.
Rohit Sharma Waves Tricolour in Emotional Independence Day Post
From political leaders to Bollywood stars, the patriotic spirit is everywhere and the cricketing fraternity is no exception. Among those joining the celebrations is Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma, who took to Instagram with a heartfelt post.
He shared a picture of himself proudly holding the Indian flag, a snap taken moments after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win in West Indies. The post instantly struck a chord with fans as they flooded the comment section with their wishes.
Rohit Leaving No Stone Unturned For ODI Return
While the Independence Day post warmed hearts, there is plenty of chatter about Rohit’s cricketing future. The veteran opener is working overtime to stage a strong ODI comeback. Having been away from competitive cricket since IPL 2025 ended in early June, Rohit was recently spotted training under former teammate and renowned coach Abhishek Nayar.
The 38-year-old is pushing himself to regain peak match fitness, determined to keep playing the 50-over game right up to the 2027 World Cup. A fresh video, now doing the rounds on social media, shows Rohit putting in the hard yards at a Mumbai stadium, looking every bit like a man on a mission.
Climbing The ICC ladder Again
If there were doubts about his hunger, the ICC ODI batting rankings told another story. In the latest update, Rohit has jumped to the No. 2 spot with 756 points, leapfrogging Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who slipped to third after a lean series in the Caribbean. Sitting just ahead of him is India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill on 784 points while Virat Kohli holds firm in fourth with 736.
Both Rohit and Kohli, who hung up their Test boots earlier this year before India’s England tour, have made it clear they are not done with ODIs. The pair could be back in blue as early as October for a three-match series against Australia and with training in full swing, that return is looking more and more likely.
