Pakistan cricket reached a new low after the Men in Green suffered a crushing 202-run defeat against the West Indies in the series decider match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. The Windies scripted a historic feat as they beat the Mohammad Rizwan-led side for the first time in 34 years.

Trouble Loading For Babar Azam And Rizwan

After the humiliation in the Caribbean, the focus has now shifted to the Asia Cup 2025, which starts on September 9. The PCB is yet to name their 15-member squad for the continental cup. There are several spots up for grabs, but in the latest events, there are reports and rumours that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are unlikely to be picked for the Asia Cup because of their poor form.

A report from Cricfollow and NewsABP Live stated that it appears that the PCB has moved on from two of their best players in the shortest format of the match.

Why Babar And Rizwan Are Not In The Race For A Place In T20I Cricket?

Notably, both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan haven't played a solitary T20I match in 2025. Azam's last T20I appearance was in December 2024 against the Proteas, while Rizwan has also not played a solitary game since the South Africa series.

Babar is struggling for runs as the 30-year-old had a disastrous PSL 2025, where he scored just 288 runs in 10 innings, averaging 36. Further, Babar could only amass 56 runs in three innings, averaging 18.67.

Also, talking about his T20I performance, Babar's last fifty-plus score was against Ireland, where he scored 75 (42).

Talking about Rizwan, he amassed just 69 runs in three innings against the West Indies. Further, Pakistan's keeper-batter only amassed 85 runs against South Africa. Although leaving out Rizwan would mean that Salman Ali Agha would most probably lead the side.

More than the runs, Babar and Rizwan's strike rate has been a major issue for Pakistan cricket.
