In a phenomenal achievement, swashbuckling Indian opener Rohit Sharma overtook Sourav Ganguly on the list of India's highest run-getters in ODI cricket. The opening batter attained the landmark during India's ongoing second ODI against Australia at Adelaide Oval.

Rohit arrests India's collapse with gritty knock; surpasses Ganguly

Rohit Sharma had a torrid start to the Australia tour, being dismissed for eight runs by Josh Hazlewood in the first match. The second ODI in Adelaide witnessed another lethal spell by Hazlewood and Xavier Bartlett, as the Australian duo once again troubled Rohit with their nagging accuracy.

However, Rohit, who usually plays an aggressive brand of cricket, chose to adopt a safer route and negotiate the ball threat by showing determination. Later, he capitalised on the Adelaide track's pace and bounce, eventually completing a hard-fought half-century.

Rohit Sharma's heroics against Australia helped him eclipse former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on the list of India's most successful batters in ODI cricket.

Starc dismisses Rohit Sharma with short ball ploy

Mitchell Starc's tactic to strategically use the short ball against Rohit Sharma worked wonders, as the right-handed opener hit it straight to the deep square leg. Before getting dismissed, Rohit struck seven boundaries and two sixes for his valiant 97-ball 73. As of writing, India were 137 for three, with Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel batting on 51* and 1*, respectively.
