Rajasthan Royals had to face major heartbreak after they lost IPL 2nd Qualifier against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.

They were soaring right at the top for more than half of the tournament, however, the last two weeks saw the once table toppers, come tumbling down after 4 consecutive defeats. Indian legend, Sunil Gavaskar did not mince words as he questioned Sanju Samson after their gut-wrenching loss.

The World Cup winner said that it was pointless for the RR skipper to smash 500+ runs in the season if he could not hold his nerves in the most important game. He also raised questions on his shot selection and how that has affected his career in the Indian cricket.

Here's what he said:

"What's the use of scoring 500 runs if you can't win your team the match or title? Everyone got out while playing glamorous shots. Why has Samson not had a steady India career? It's because his shot selection has let him down."

"If his shot selection had been good, his India career too would have been long. I hope that the opportunity he has got in the T20 World Cup, he grabs it with both hands and cements his place," Gavaskar added.

During the do-or-die game, Abhishek bowled a flat length delivery towards the stumps, and Samson went for a pull while going on back foot. He did not get the elevation he was looking for, and Markram took a smart catch near the ropes that sent him packing for just 10 runs.

However, when we look at his performance in IPL 2024, this has been his best season so far. He has scored 531 runs from 14 innings with 86 as his personal best. Moreover, he has smashed 48 boundaries and 24 maximums for the Royals this season.

He will next be seen in action during the T20 World Cup starting on June 2.
