As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 heads towards its climactic final on May 26, 2024, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, former cricketer Kevin Pietersen backed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), citing KKR's superior spin attack and better head-to-head record this season.

He also believed that 'The Orange Army' need to play extraordinary cricket to defeat KKR and lift their second title in the history of the cash-rich league.

Kevin Pietersen Supports KKR Against SRH

Kevin Pietersen offered his pre-match insights for the highly anticipated IPL 2024 final. While acknowledging both teams' strengths, he identified certain factors that might tilt the balance in KKR's favour.

He believed that KKR's spin-bowling strength could be a significant advantage, particularly considering the Chennai pitch's historical tendency to assist spinners.

"I didn't like the way the Sunrisers threw in the towel the other evening in Ahmedabad, and I think it's going to put them on the back foot for the start on Sunday. The way they just finished that game off, Pat Cummins gave Travis Head the ball, and Shreyas Iyer just went bang, bang, bang," he said on Star Sports Cricket Live.

He also highlighted KKR's recent dominance over SRH, evidenced by their convincing victories in both encounters this season. These factors, coupled with the momentum gained from their Qualifier 1 win, could provide KKR with a psychological edge.

However, Pietersen likely recognised SRH's resilience as well. Their hard-fought win against Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 showcased their fighting spirit and ability to adapt.
